Hey, I Wrote a Book!

By Derek On December 14, 2011 Under Post

I have written a free e-book that you can download on this blog. It is called, “Yo! Be a Better Broker.” The book takes an irreverent look at the cash equities business in investment banking and discusses the various players and what they do. We also look at techniques that work on the job and techniques that don’t. Like an ejection seat on a helicopter, techniques that don’t work are a waste of time and can end your career prematurely.

Some of the material is from the website but a lot of it is new and can only be found in the book (otherwise why write the damn thing?). The book itself is 45 pages long and divided into ten easily digestible chapters. At the end are two chapters on dissecting real research, broking the real story and composing effective real voicemails using that material. You won’t find this stuff anywhere else.

My Five Reasons Why You Should Read This Book:

  1. I wrote it and will be pissed off if you don’t
  2. You will become better at your job
  3. You will earn more money because you are better at your job
  4. You will retire earlier because you have more money
  5. You will have the time you need due to early retirement to set up orphanages in Africa, become a living organ donor, or just eat bon bons and play golf everyday

To sign up for the book you will be giving me your email address. That will put you on my subscribers list which means you will get one email from me whenever I put a new post on this site. You can unsubscribe anytime by clicking the link that appears at the bottom of my emails. Since I am busy, lazy, and otherwise distracted, you may get one email per week from me. I will not sell, rent or give away your email to anyone – ever. That is my promise.

Thanks for your attention and let me know what you think about the book!

I read and enjoyed your book (especially some of the pics and captions).

Good advice through and through, although the getting up early and actually knowing what is going on, might be put in the optional section. But the part about not trying to ram an idea down a customers throat and saying FU after hanging up the phone is invaluable.

Only one disagreement. You spell Ana-list “R-e-s-p-e-c-t”. In my dictionary it is still found in the C section under Clueless… or for those working in Asia under the “possibly lucrative professions for failed English Teachers” or “jobs that engineers or or accountants can take if they want to make more money and work less and not be held accountable for their performance”

just trying to live up to my rep as a cynic!!

      Mr. Arrow,
Thanks for your observations, although you may be a little too hard on the analysts. I consider myself a “failed English Teacher” too!

Nice, one, I esp. like the Dr. Seuss quote. I’ll take a closer look sometime this week, but overall impression is – rockin’!

Read it. It’s great. Well done.

Listen first, talk second. Best advice.

    For everyone.
